Beach Science 101
I will bring my box of treats, including bird, fish, and shell identification guides; magnifying glass and WiFi scope; pH, salinity, and temperature meter; and my plankton net. We will stroll the shore making observations and talking about the ridiculously cool science behind what we see. Topics will vary based on season and our findings but come prepared to learn about topics such as saltwater chemistry, coastal food chains, invertebrate identifications, origin of sea beans and other treasures washed ashore. We will talk about the impacts facing our coastal areas in the coming decades. We will chat about coastal processes and how we can stay safe will enjoying the beach. We will identify wetland and dune plants and talk about the values created across diverse stakeholders by wetlands.
